1. Why invest the time to create a performance assessment
It is important to invite time to create a performance assessment because it allows the teacher to evaluate the skills of the students and the knowledge that they have gained. It could also explain what the students understand well and where they are confused. It allows students to apply their knowledge and see how it applies to real life situations. They are not only able to learn the concept, but they are able to apply it, which makes it more memorable.
2. What advantages do you see to utilizing this type of assessment approach
It makes the experience and lesson more memorable. A lesson that is fun and educational is one that students will never forget. Students will also be able to apply the lesson instead of just learning the concept/lesson to learn.
3. How do projects and research fit into the performance assessing process
Projects and research allow the students to apply the information that they have learned, therefore assessing their performance.

1. Why invest the time to create a performance assessment?

In order to produce productive citizens, schools and teachers must develop some type of consistent plan that implements and evaluates authentic assessments. Time must be set aside to create these performance assessments, because they allow students to apply, analzye, synthesize, and evaluate the materials learned in class. Performance assessments are student-centered and call for real-life experiences, contrasting with traditional testing.

2. What advantages do you see to utilizing this type of assessment approach?

There are many advantages to authentic assessment. First of all, students are being asked to perform a certain task versus simply selecting responses on traditional tests. When students are called to perform a task, usually they are being evaluated for higher-order thinking skills, such as application, synthesis, analysis, and evaluation. Students also must perform such a task to express their deep understanding of a concept or skill not just to recall facts. Authentic assessments offer teachers concrete evidence that students have constructed meaning of such a skill or concept.

3. How do projects and research fit into the performance assessing process?

Students are usually asked to complete a reading before beginning a project. This research reading serves as an activation of prior knowledge and as a preparation for the contents of an upcoming project. Before or even after performing the proposed tasks on an authentic assessment, students may be required to complete some research for a paper. The act of researching itself can be considered a performance assessment, since teachers are able to see if students are thinking about the right materials in their search.

You are right that performance assessments easily allow teachers to see when students are confused about what concept they are supposed to understand in order to perform a task.

1. Why invest the time to create a performance assessment?
Performance assessments allow for students to apply their knowledge to their real life situations. Applying it to real life situations helps students to more effectively remember what they have learned. Performance assessment is a viable alternative to norm-referenced tests. Teachers can use performance assessment to obtain a much richer and more complete picture of what students know and are able to do.

2. What advantages do you see to utilizing this type of assessment approach?
Some advantages to this assessment approach are that students are, rather than being tested, asked to do a certain task. When students are asked to perform a certain task, they are expected to show that they have a deeper understanding of the concept being assessed rather than the often times shallow understanding of memorization of facts for a test. Not only does this approach help students, it allows for teachers to see that students have constructed meaning of such a skill or concept.

3. How do projects and research fit into the performance assessing process?
When students do research, they are able to relate what they have learned into their projects, allowing for performance assessment.
